The Gospel of John-Day 77

John 21:25 Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.

Today we come to the end of our walk through John’s Gospel, and we land at the perfect place. Two thousand years ago, John-the-Gospel-writer came to the end of HIS book, and he sat back and surveyed the life of Jesus that he was privileged to witness. John concluded, “I’ve barely scratched the surface. There is so much more to tell, but there is really no way to tell it all.”

This is the story of Jesus for all of us. The closer you get, the more you realize that His story is intertwined in everything you see. Sometimes He is working in obvious, miraculous ways; other times His touch is more subtle and difficult to explain. Sometimes I tell others about the breathtaking way He demonstrated His presence. Other times I keep it to myself, because He is working inside of me in a personal way, and I’m not sure anyone can truly understand. I guess what I’m saying is that Jesus is not just a story I tell. He is too big to be contained in a story! We do our best to explain the infinite with our finite minds and tongues.

Today, we come to the end of this devotional journey, and I feel like John felt – like it’s been an inadequate effort just to highlight what is recorded in Scripture! There are so many other things that could have been said. But then, if we had discussed everything in the book, I’m not sure my computer hard drive could have held it all. So, we’ll end today and move to the next chapter in a life-long journey to grow closer to our Savior.

Thanks for reading.
