The comparison trap is dangerous and seductive. We all know people who seem to be doing life better. They dress better and look better and carry themselves with more confidence and swagger. It’s easy to get tricked into comparing yourself with these people, but those comparisons add nothing but consternation to your life.
When Paul went to Jerusalem to meet with the Church leaders, he was surrounded by the biggest names in the early Church. He was surrounded by people who were with Jesus; who learned from him directly. But Paul resisted the temptation to measure himself against these men, because doing so was a pointless endeavor. He had only one thing to measure – whether or not he was doing the job God had called him to do.
